Open House
Ok, you wanted to see our new house? Now is your chance. Saturday October 30th we will be hosting an open house/Halloween party. Open house starts at 6:30, party lasts till late. If you are reading this blog, and you actually know me, you probably know how to contact me in order to get my address.
As with most events with the McMeekins, costumes are encouraged. There will be food and or drinks, so come and enjoy yourselves!
Two Years
Thats right, two whole years. I am sure that everyone who was there remembers our wedding, and it has now been two years since then. The loving wife has not yet decided to trade me in for a newer model, nor have the doctors quite figured out what is wrong in her brain that she actually said yes. If you have been following along (on this blog, or in real life) you would know that these last two years have been full of great experiences and unforgettable memories. We have traveled the world, bought our first house, I got a new job, and moved on multiple occasions. Busy times to be sure, but times that I am extremely grateful for because I was able to share them with my wonderful wife. Here is our post from our first anniversary.
Internet Addiction Finally Pays!
Ok, so all those years of messing around on the internet, that was just research …yeah, thats the ticket! So I am now ready to officially announce to all to all 4 of my blog followers (hi to all my Aunts out there) that I am now the Social Media Program Manager for my company. What this entails is making sure that my company is AOK in the world of the MyFaces, Spacebooks, Twooters, blogs and whatever other fancypants-thingydoos the internet can come up with. I am sure you will all hear about it soon enough because I will be begging and pleading for all of you and your friends to follow my pages wherever they may be. It looks like I am going to start in another week or so, so wish me luck!
Friend Book Buy
My long time friend Vrinda Pendrid, who currently lives in England is publishing a book. “Check Mates” is a collection of short works by and about people with OCD. Although, I do not usually read short stories and almost never read poetry, I still enjoyed myself. I would encourage you to check it out on Amazon. It went on sale yesterday (I am actually posting this later than I intended, surprise surprise.)
Movin’ On Up
Well, it looks like we may finally have a house, and in time for the April first time home buyers tax credit too.
We have seen over 150 homes in about a 4 month period we found this house after about 6 hours of looking on a Saturday and promptly abandoned the rest of our list to go make an offer. This house had only been on the market for 2 weeks or so, and apparently 4 other people had the same idea and made a bid. Fortunately we beat those suckers.
A little bit of details for you. Its a 3 bedroom house built in 1970 at 30th Street between Osborn and Indian School Rd in Phoenix. It has no front so to speak, all you see from the road is a white wall and a garage. Once you go in through its creaky heavy wooden gate you find what is neither a front yard nor back, but is all private oasis with a lovely pool house, a pool, desert landscaping and multiple types of citrus. Not a hint of neighbors. It is the kind of place you could run around nekkid in 24 hours a day without need to draw curtains or a robe. The inside of the house has travertine floors throughout, a giant vaulted wooden ceiling, fireplace, sky lights, and a kitchen that needs a bit of love.
Don’t want to entirely put the cart before the horse here, but we are hopeful that soon this house will be ours and we do have a contract at this point. Things may still fall through, as closing does take a while there is much to be done, so wish us luck!
You can find pictures HERE.
UPDATE: We got our contract back on the last day of April. Just in the nick of time to get the tax credit. We also had our inspection done this week, nothing too scary.
BREAKING: Iceland Volcano END OF THE WORLD
Technically probably not the end of the world, but who knows? Thousands dead from earthquakes in China again, and now a volcano too? After extensive research on the topic of volcanoes, I have come to the conclusion that we need Tommy Lee Jones to come save us. Ok, maybe not us, as we aren’t in England anymore, and technically no one is in eminent danger, but it is mucking up travel all over Europe. I guess if we were still over there, we would be traveling by bus this weekend.
Thousands have been stranded at airports for several days now, and we thought we had it bad with our flight into Europe and the Swine Flu fun. Apparently there is no real end in sight to and the last time that Eyjafjallajökull (that’s a mouthful) erupted it lasted for two whole years.
Not really sure where I am going with this post, but I guess I should sign off with a personal note to our friends over in England facing the worst delays and our friends everywhere else (if this truly is the end):
Dear Guys,
If this is the end of the world, it was nice knowing you. Please enjoy your last few days on this earth in spite of the rain of hellfire and ash. I will see you in the afterlife. I plan on spending my final days with my wife and family, surviving off of rations of cheesecake and beer.
I am too lazy to really enjoy the inevitable looting, but to those of you who chose to partake, happy hunting! I have seen bumper stickers that tell me you can’t take it with you, but I am not sure I believe that, so stock up now. St. Peter may let you cut in line if he gets to watch your freshly stolen blu-rays on your freshly stolen big screen tv up there in heaven.
If it isn’t the end of the world, well, whatever. I guess I will see ya when I see ya.
Yours truly,
The Nerd
No Direction Home

Ok, so I thought I might update anyone who is still reading this (and there are a couple of visits every day) about our house situation. At this point it is a bit of a mess still. Some of you remember that nice house on the mountain that we told you about? Yeah, that’s out. It was a short sale with 2 banks getting shorted. They couldn’t even decide how much money they wanted, they just knew they wanted more.
Since then we rejoined our house search and are now have around 120 houses on our list that we have actually gone out to see. There were some hopefuls that we were close to leaving an offer on. One in North Phoenix that we decided was a bit too far out of the way. Just this week we attempted to buy a house only to be denied any sort of normal loan because it doesn’t have a kitchen. Now we have money to put in a kitchen, but that doesn’t seem to matter too much. We even considered trespassing to install a kitchen in the middle of the night, but in the mean time we are still on the hunt. The problem is we are running out of houses to look at.
If we do have some good news at some point in the future, I suppose I will update again on the blog. It seems to me that we will have to have some good news at some point.
UPDATE: Looks like we have a house.
Wisdom Teeth
In an effort to ensure the ultimate survival of the wisdom of the human race, this weekend I donated my wisdom teeth. Seeing as I am already wise beyond my years I decided to have my wisdom teeth removed. I am told that they are being relocated to secret bunkers at the four corners of the earth. If the worst somehow comes to pass, either from 2012 and the ghosts of the Maya or the Large Hadron Colider creates a black hole that consumes most of the earth, then humanity has a backup, one last great hope. My wisdom teeth will be used to either genetically clone me, or a wisdom harnessing machine will be created to use them directly.
It is a great sacrifice, and I have had some strong discomfort, but I do this for the future, and I am sure I will fully recover with time and painkillers.
Pictures!
Ok, I know we never quite got around to posting several things, the end of our cruise, the second half of our trip to Germany (raditeller!), or our trip to Scotland, but I think at this point since we are back in the country, most of you we got to tell in person.
I do have something for you though, pictures! That’s right, finally got up all of our cruise pictures in one place. I am trying slowly to upload a lot of junk there. I already have the cruise, some random pictures of us in Bournemouth and pictures of the house we are trying to buy. Please enjoy.
